Project No.03: Picture Frame

This is a picture frame I made for someone incredibly important to me, Emily Anne Ward. Emily loves Christmas more than anyone I know. She, is a very talented horseback rider, competing in equestrian eventing. The frame is made of walnut, with some nice figure. The frame will house a horse drawing that a local artist made. I wanted to practice my joints, so I cut a mitered half lap. Since it was my first joinery attempt, I made a number of practice joints. Once I felt comfortable enough, I moved on to the walnut. The joints turned out nicely, and I chamfered the edged to give the frame a more crisp appearance. I finished the frame with Minwax tung oil, sanding up to 400 grit between coats. I top coated with wax and buffed it. The finish really made the figure "pop," and I am happy with the way it came out.
